Five On-Trend Third Pieces

Ok Lovely, here we go – I talked about the huge value of having “third pieces” in your wardrobe.
First, a third piece (blazer, cardigan, wrap or cape) flatters the body beautifully, it UPLEVELS your look to being more put-together AND it stretches your wardrobe dollars.  Meaning, you have dozens more interesting outfit options WITHOUT spending the farm!

So, let’s look at This Season’s Top 5 Hottest “Third Piece” Trends:

1. Cropped jacket

The cropped jacket is a perfect little partner to wear with this season’s wide legged cropped pants, jeans, over a little summer dress – really with anything! This style is particularly good on a body with a defined waist. IF that’s not you, layer your cropped jackets over longer tops which peek out from the bottom.

2. Gingham Style

Gingham is a kicky (and tricky) little trend that we see return periodically during the spring/summer months. For an interesting combo, try tossing on your Gingham blazer over a graphic tee or print rather than a solid. To keep it looking put-together, be sure the print in your T, top or dress includes the main color of the gingham. Add a swipe of a bright springy lip color and you’re hot to trot!

3. Suede

Word on the street (and the runways) this spring is that the suede jacket has taken over from the denim jacket. Yep, that’s the word – personally, a pack of wild quail couldn’t pry my painted fingers from releasing my denim jackets quite yet ;).

Suede adds an earthy vibe to any look AND is great on women who want to balance their bottoms with a little more volume up top. If you tend to be quite full busted or have really wide shoulders, you may wish to skip this trend since it can visually add weight on the top.

4. Camo print utility jacket

Ohhh, I DIG this trend!! I’m still agonizing over a cute shapely camo jacket I passed by several years ago! Gaaaa – don’t you hate that?! Especially when the trend is BACK!

This is a great way to rough-up a more feminine ensemble or add a little edge to tailored separates. If you’re a woman who doesn’t have a defined waist, you can wear the longer, hip length options well – and if you’ve got a waist to highlight, choose a cropped style or a style that has a drawstring waist to add a little feminine cinch in the middle. And if you’re full on the bottom, choose a style WITHOUT patch pockets at the hips.

5. Fringe Fest

The fringe trend is being seen everywhere: jewelry, booties/shoes, handbags and even jackets, kimono’s and cardigans.

It’s fun, brings in some movement and a great way to add a cheap thrill to your wardrobe!

Here’s me wearing my sheer fringe kimono I picked up from Winners (it was $17.00!).
